It has been 3 years since the last blog entry.. and with that, there's a bit of a shift in what I want to write about.. Well, the hip-hop elements will always be there, but I want to inject something different....... Anyhow, let it evolve.. over time... dare me........

ONE story... Part II: Random Act
Let's continue from the last post... well if you're talking about the hip-hop influence.. there's one group that u ain't gonna mess around with cuz u're always gonna go down with like da O.P.P with Naughty By Natureeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Ya know, growing up in an Asian family in Australia from the late 80s, and then somehow got into the whole hip-hop R&B thang which weren't mainstream meant that I was always make my music soul-searching a motherfucking difficult task.. but i kept on 'n pressed on til da break of dawn cuz i won't stop til I drop...... The important thing was, that I would not be swayed by any other music types.....
R Kelly, possibly one of the greatest modern R&B singer, producer, hitmaker, funkmaster... from 'She's got the Vibe' (with Public Announcement) to 'Bump 'n Grind', to 'I believe I can fly' to 'Ignition' to... aiii.. endless..... his lyrics, his creativity and the power of his tracks.. not many could compare...
'n talking about the top of da game....R&B group wise, yo cant' pass JODECI...
back in 1993, yr 12, somebody introduced me to Jodeci.....with 'Come & Talk to Me' and the album.. i was hooked.... while I never had the chance to see the whole group live in concert, watching K=Ci 'n Jojo in 1999 was better than nothing....
ok... midnight... devils in town.... goodnight

Public Enemy, Above the Rim soundtrack, Warren G's Regulate,Limited Edition DJ Mix, Remixes,Enter The Wu Tang,Beastie Boys....
在大學上堂時,只會戴上headphone 聽Snoop Dogg 說唱 what's my motherfucking name?!?...或者...口頭已經唸'it was a clear black nite, a clear white moon Warren G was on tha street.......
What are you doing Freeman?" and I replied, without any second thought "I ain't doing nuthin', u know what i'm sayin'?!?".He then said "If you are not doing nothing, then you must be doing something, and I do not know what you are saying"...
Kriss Kross will make ya, JUMP JUMP!... growing up with this shit 'n motherfucking proud of it...
Do You wanna Get Funky Tonight"反而是一首絕對爆的party anthem... 比起"Gonna make you sweat" 等等更好聽.......

Being back in HK for almost a year now....hmm...i guess this song gives me a reminder of what HK's really like...but at the same time, grinding thru the last motherfucking year hasn't been easy...but I just keep pressing on...til the break of dawn...! The next track...speaks my current state of mind.. the insomnia state of mind....Bobby Digital's "Insomnia"....
........another sleepnessless track.. R Kelly's 'I Can't Sleep'....
....love this track, not exactly the reason why I can't sleep but R Kelly is GOD...
G'nite/morning..... it is now 4:47am....

B-boys,breaks 'n all!
Well, I haven't updated this for a few days but here I go again. On our radio program (Show#7) we invited two HK B-boys to talk about their experience as a Bboy dancers in Hong Kong (Chacha & Ga Jung). So it's only natural for me to try and select a few hip-ho b'boys dance tracks. one of the track featured on the show was Bomfunk MC's 'Freestylers'..it was a pretty good track came out in 1999/2000:
I used to love that clip especially with the kid remote controlling fastforwarding people.. There's another awesome track this same CD called 'Uprocking Beats':
Apart from music tracks, over the years there had been quite a number of movies made (esp.in the US) where they based the storylines around hip-hop/hip-hop dance.. More recently, I'm sure you all have heard of 'Step Up 2'..here's the final sequence... now, any clips with girls getting wet is great, the dance is just a 'bonus' hahaha:
One more, one more....! 'Stomp The Yard'..2006/2007...opening sequence... with Chris Brown...with a different dance style called 'krumping'...:
Of course there's plenty more as always... until then..... g'nite!

3) Dr.Dre/LL Cool J - Zoom... from the "Bullworth" movie soundtrack...not a well-known track but the sound of Dre's beat with LL's vocal..it's slamming..!

Meanwhile, back in Year 2010
OK OK... Time to come back to today's world a little and pick on some of the more current tracks that meets my expectation of good hip-hop/R&B music of 2010... Just before I step into that, I want to raise an annoying factor living in Hong Kong, that is we don't even have fucking BET (Black Entertainment Television) on cable TV.. Now if there's anyone that can tell me we actually have that in HK, do let me know!?!?!
Anyway, back to this year's music.. Let's start off with one of the 90's R&B princess Monica who released her latest album 2 months ago called 'Still Standing'. One of the best track from the album has to be this 'Mirror':
Now I ain't saying Chris Brown's R&B ain't great, but if ur trying to front me with real R&B sound, I would still pick Usher, who also released a new album this year, called "Raymond vs Raymond". I have seen both Usher and Chris Brown live in concert in the past, both great dancers, but I'd give Usher also for his vocal, much better. Here's a clip from his American Idol performance earlier this year, such a pro performer:
Now hitting back onto the hip-hop side of thang... If 2009 Jay-Z/Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind' was the anthem of that year, this year..(so far anyway) I'd definitely give it to Snoop's "I wanna rock"..esp. the remix with Jay-ZZZZZzZZZ! Check out the new clip they just did for the re-mix:
'n now.. take a look back at the original clip with guest starring Jamie Foxx!'Malice'!
da dancers damn aiiiii.. 'n da girls.. hahaha....hotdamn!..

1) Snow - Informer:有reggae/hip-hop feel
2)下一首是由R&B group 'Shai' 唱的 "If I ever fall in love"...

First urban encounter
I was trying to recall when I actually started to enjoy listening to soul/urban music just now and I would probably say around the late 80s (ie. 1989), with tracks such as New Edition's "Every Little Step":
Thinking back, I probably wouldn't even know what the different genre of music were. Although I remembered back in high school Year 9 we had to take music subjects and I was already flipping thru books on "The Beatles" and "James Brown". Of course in the 80s there were Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and George Michael. I could easily have another blog dedicated to MJ (RIP) but that's for another day and another time.
I have to say, I got onto R&B first before Hip-hop.. I would have to give props to R Kelly's group "R Kelly and the Public Announcement" and his "12Play" albums that got me onto the R&B thang.. Ya'll can say about how Babyface was a great producer of R&B 'n all, but to me R Kel has always been da man....
Another old school but memorable R&B track was in 1993, BoyzIIMen's "End of The Road":
This track knocked Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and became the longest consecutive weeks on Billboard chart No.1 (I think it was like 14 weeks or something) back in 1992/1993... I still remembered walking into Whitehorse Plaza in Box Hill Victoria (a big shoutout to all ya'll in Box Hill AUS!!)with my aunties to buy the BoyzIIMen 'Motownphilly' album!...
On the hip-hop front, it was the beginning of the gangsta rap era, with NWA, Ice T emerging in the early 90s. But it was LL Cool J's 1990 hit "Mamma Said Knock You Out" that blew me away, 'n really set my mind to get into hip-hop/rap music:
"Don't Call it a come back!" as Lady Loves Cool James would hit it !. 'n on that note, I'm off to bed!...

First Post
OK OK.. So here I am attempting to start my own blog again for the 10,000,000th times... I guess everytime I start one (eventually they lead to nowhere!) there was always a purpose in mind.
I have promised myself that, this time around I'll actually stick to it and let it run for a long time...
Anyway! Enough bullshit and let's get this started..! The reason why I've started this is simply because I noticed since moving back to Hong Kong, I have been on facebook a LOT and I also noticed that I had been posting a lot of youtube hip-hop,R&B and funk music videos on FB but as we all know, once it scrolls off the page all clips are gone. So I figured if I create a blog, put the videos up, do a little bit of writing about hip-hop,music,lifestyle or whatever, and putting some of my thoughts in it, it might not be a bad idea!
Being the first post, I'll put up a clip from an icon, Tupac (R.I.P).."My Block". Just like James Dean, Pac passed away at the height of his career. This was one of more laid back track. I remembered buying 'The Show' soundtrack album back in 95/96. (The album's version is a little different from this clip).
It's funny....whenever I look at an old MV from youtube or where-ever, it reminds me of what I was doing at that point in time of my life. I guess the thang with music is, that each song, or each album tells a story, or an era in time in the past. Back in 1995, getting hip-hop music in Melbourne, Australia was quite hard and Central Station Records was probably the most well-equipped urban music provider in Australia.
Another track I like to share is a track from MC Jin before he came back to HK called " I Quit".. It's the grits 'n fire in the lyrics that I enjoyed the most from this track..that's JIN to ya earsss....
It's interesting with Jin. I heard of him back in the 2005 period and I even remembered he came to Australia (I didn't go). I was living in Sydney by then but what was really wicked was to see an Asian-American representing in the hip-hop community and THAT, got me noticed because there were probably quite a few Asian-Australian representing hip-hop in Australia but nowhere near where Jin had gone with his battles 'n freestyling.
Now that I'm back in HK, haha, i guess the rest is history!
Til tomorrow, good night ya'll.
